Bollywood has come a long way in the last few years. Filmmaking is a lucrative prospect, thanks to the influx of finance. Movie budgets are increasing by the day, thanks to huge companies and production houses taking an interest in it.
1. BAHUBALI - The Beginning
Bahubali is a bilingual epic of epic proportions, and it is the most expensive film ever made in India, with a budget of 200 crores. Here's to larger and greater movies in the future! At the time of release, the movie had a price tag of 180 crores (US$28 million) production cost, making it the most costly Indian film at the time of its release.
On July 10, 2015, the film was released globally, to critical acclaim and box office records. The film was also the highest-grossing Indian film during the period, the third highest-earning Indian film worldwide, and the highest-grossing South Indian film at the time of its release, with a worldwide box office gross of 650 crores (US$100 million). Its Hindi dubbed version was also the highest-grossing dubbed film in India, breaking multiple records. Since then, The Conclusion has broken both budget and box office records. The Beginning was the top-grossing Indian film of 2015 and the fourth highest-earning Indian film of all time.
2. BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN
Salman Khan and Harshaali Malhotra appear in the film, which also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Salman Khan stars as Bajrangi, a devout follower of the Hindu god Hanuman who sets out to return a silent six-year-old Pakistani girl (Malhotra) to her homeland in Pakistan after being separated from her parents in India. With the locale and political settings, this Salman Khan feature cost INR 90 Cr to make.
The film's primary photography began in November 2014, with a budget of 90 crores (US$14 million). Rameshwar S. Bhagat edited the film while Aseem Mishra shot the cinematography. Pritam created the soundtrack and scored the background music alongside Julius Packiam. At the time, it was India's second-highest-grossing picture.
3. BAJIRAO MASTANI
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the 2015 movie is an Indian epic historical romance film, with the soundtrack also written by the film's director. The film was co-produced by Bhansali and Kishore Lulla of Eros International, which stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra. Bajirao Mastani is a narrative of Maratha Peshwa Bajirao I (1700–1740 AD) and his second wife Mastani, based on the Marathi novel Raau by Nagnath S. Inamdar.
The film received favourable reviews when it opened to the audience on December 18, 2015, with praise for Bhansali's directing, several technical achievements, and the performances of the actors, particularly Chopra and Singh. Bajirao Mastani is also known for its grandeur, scale, and meticulous attention to detail. It is one of the most costly Hindi films, with a budget of 1.45 billion dollars, including marketing and commercials. It was a huge commercial success and one of the highest-earning Indian films of all time, grossing over 3.5 billion dollars at the box office.
4. TIGER ZINDA HAI
Ali Abbas Zafar directed Tiger Zinda Hai, a 2017 Indian Hindi spy thriller film, starring the likes of Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Sajjad Delfrooz in the lead roles. It also featured Angad Bedi, Kumud Mishra, Nawab Shah, Girish Karnad, and Paresh Rawal in supporting roles. The film is based on the 2014 abduction of Indian nurses by ISIL, and it is the sequel to the 2012 film Ek Tha Tiger and the second episode of the Tiger film series.
The movie was released on December 22nd, 2017. It is one of the most costly Hindi films of all time, and one of the most expensive Indian films of all time, with a budget of 2.1 billion (US$32 million). It became a great commercial success and one of the highest-earning Indian films of all time after grossing more than 5.5 billion (US$84 million) at the box office.
5. BANG BANG
When it came to impressing the audience, this Indian remake of the Hollywood film Knight and Day, starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, went all out with action sequences and dance routines. The Hrithik Roshan-Katrina Kaif film provided us with an enjoyable film and a fantastic onscreen combo to look forward to. The film's production cost INR 142 crores. Hrithik started production on the film right after finishing Krrish 3 and demanded a price of 300 million rupees (US$4.6 million) upfront, which was the highest sum ever demanded by any performer in Bollywood at the time.
